Siuana

The first of Royal Arctic Line’s four new settlement ships, Siuana Arctica, arrived in Nuuk on April 12 in the most beautiful sunny weather. The 67 meter long ship will be based in Upernavik from this summer, serving its nine settlements from the regional port in Aasiaat.

However, Siuana Arctica needs to get to work right away, as in a few days she will sail to Uummannaq via Aasiaat to open up Saattut and Ikerasak. However, Siuana Arctica will make its way through the ice – when Mary Arctica follows suit this weekend and makes a channel for the settlement ship by first going to Saattut and then making its way through the ice to Ikerasak.

Siuana Arctica has just around 500 pallet spaces, and 1000 when stacked in two layers. Siuana Arctica thus opens the season for the Uummannaq district when it has delivered its cargo in Aasiaat.

Siuana Arctica has a side port with an elevator and two cranes, and the ship can sail up to 12 knots. In addition, the design of the new settlement ships takes into account their function as a training ground for Greenlandic seafarers. Thus, it is possible to take three students and trainees on board Siuana Arctica.

Siuana Arctica replaces Vestlandia, which has sailed the Upernavik district for Royal Arctic Line on a charter basis for a number of years.

Siuana means in front, in front or forward. Siuana Arctica is also at the forefront of the next three settlement ships that Royal Arctic Line expects to take delivery this year, serving Uummannaq, South Greenland and Disko Bay.
