Royal Arctic Line’s new settlement ship, Tilioq Arctica, was officially named today at a ceremony at the port of Narsaq.

It was prevention consultant and daughter of priest Amandus Petrussen and his wife Frederikke Petrussen, Bolethe Stenskov, who named the ship. She was born in Narsarmijit (Narsaq Kujalleq) in 1966, is married and has three sons. Bolethe is a trained social worker and prevention consultant and is chairman of Arctic Sport and vice chairman of Kalaallit Nunaanni timersoqatigiit kattuffiat. She has also previously been president of Kalaallit Nunaanni Tae Kwon Do, where she is a 4 Dan black belt. The godmother of the ship also loves fishing, nature, running, painting and crafts.

The local choir Nangaasukkut opened the naming ceremony in the bright sunny weather in Narsaq.

Before throwing the champagne bottle towards the side of the ship and after Deputy Director AviĆ¢ja Lyberth Lennert’s welcome speech, godmother Bolethe Stenskov gave these words to the ship: – “The word Tilioq means a trusted friend. And I wish the crew of the good ship a safe journey in the name of community and helpfulness, and bring the spirit of friendship to wherever you may go. Because I’m sure the ship will be a good friend to everywhere it goes, because the feelings a good friendship brings with it will last forever.”

The beautifully wrapped champagne bottle shattered against the side of the ship – much to the delight of the large crowd. The choir concluded the solemn part of the naming ceremony with the beautiful song “Putsut tamaani issortitersut” by Henrik Lund, as requested by the godmother of the ship.

Up to 300 citizens made their way to the naming ceremony, coffee and music and a tour of Tilioq Arctica.

Royal Arctic Line thanks everyone in Narsaq for the unforgettable day at the port, where the coffee table and music with Igalikormiut kinguaavi was a popular feature.
