Royal Arctic Line’s new settlement ship, Siuana Arctica, was officially named today at a formal ceremony at the port of Upernavik. It was 29-year-old Louise Karlsen, Royal Arctic Line’s Port Manager in Upernavik, who named the ship. Up to 900 people attended the naming ceremony, coffee and music, and a tour of Siuana Arctica.

Local choir EP-53 opened the naming ceremony in the glorious sunshine.

Before throwing the champagne bottle towards the side of the ship, and after CEO Verner Hammeken’s welcome speech, godmother Louise Karlsen gave these words to the ship: “You come with hope and strength to our city and our villages. With the hope of the very best journey on your way, in sea breeze and seaway, on arrival and departure, I name you Siuana Arctica.

The beautifully wrapped champagne bottle shattered against the side of the ship – much to the delight of the large crowd. The EP-53 choir concluded the solemn part of the naming ceremony with the beautiful song “Qujavunga” by Tønnes Kreutzmann, as requested by the young godmother.

Royal Arctic Line thanks everyone in Upernavik for the unforgettable day at the port, where the coffee table and music with brothers Marthin and Samuel Mørch was a popular feature.
