The project will help share knowledge to citizens about suicide prevention in all the country’s settlements and include citizens’ knowledge about how suicide in Greenland can be prevented. The Royal Arctic Line Sponsoring Committee believes that the knowledge being collected is very important and believes that it will benefit the entire Greenlandic society and future generations.
“Royal Arctic Line has a social responsibility and wants to put future generations and the population – the country’s most important resources – first. We will actively support educational opportunities and help strengthen families in Greenland.
Many of us have had suicide close to us, so it’s natural for the sponsorship committee to support this project. Through the research, important knowledge will be gathered that can be crucial in reducing the high suicide rates in our country. It will benefit the entire population and we encourage others to also support this important research project, which will be carried out by skilled and competent local researchers and psychologists,” says Communications & Marketing Manager Ann-Britta A. Olsvig on behalf of the Royal Arctic Line sponsorship committee.
Researcher Arnârak Patricia Bloch is grateful for the support from Royal Arctic Line:
“I am very happy for the support from Royal Arctic Line. It is a human right to have access to knowledge about health, including suicide prevention. It’s also a human right to get information about what’s good for your health in your own native language. That’s why it’s crucial that we have partnered with Greenlandic psychofamily therapist MPF, psychiatric nurse Henriette Berthelsen and Greenlandic psychologist Vilhelm Berthelsen, who will be working together with me. We have a limited budget for the project, so we are pleased that Royal Arctic Line, in addition to the DKK 130,000 grant, is also contributing by making their ships available for our transportation. This is an example of the whole community taking part in suicide prevention for it to be effective, and I sincerely thank Royal Arctic Line for their interest and contribution. In this way, the opinions of rural citizens can be included in the work to create co-determination in suicide prevention work in the country”
Royal Arctic Line is sponsoring the research project with DKK 130,000 and making its settlement ships available so that the research team can more easily reach the settlements they will visit.
