Royal Arctic Line and Silver Liner have donated DKK 100,000 to the Commodore G. de Lichtenberg Foundation to support education in Greenland.

The donation comes from the sale of Mary Arctica to Silver Liner as a separate sale of the artwork that has been used to decorate the ship since she was named in 2005.

The money will support young people in Greenland with a free participation in the education program on the training ship Georg Stage. The training program focuses on sailing, navigation and maritime work, giving young people a unique opportunity to develop in these areas.

“We are pleased that this donation goes to support Greenlandic youth in their choice of a career in the maritime industry, which is much needed in Greenland” says Niels Clemensen, Commercial Director at Royal Arctic Line.

Silver Liner shares this vision of supporting education in Greenland. “We are also proud and happy about the acquisition of Silver Mary and look forward to a good cooperation with Greenland and Royal Arctic Line”, says Tormod Fossmark, representative for Silver Liner.

Rasmus Lohse, Chairman of the Board of the Commander G. de Lichtenberg Foundation, is deeply grateful for the donation, which will help even more young Greenlanders get a maritime education.

“In the volunteer board, we also see the donation as a pat on the back and it certainly helps us hold our heads high and continue to support the young people. Since 1962, the foundation has sent approximately 300 young people from Greenland on education – primarily on board the school ship Georg Stage.
Without the great support from the private and business community, this would not be possible. We are very pleased that you think of the foundation and want to support the work with the young people. We congratulate Royal Arctic Line and Silver Liner on the collaboration and humbly thank you for the very nice donation”

The joint donation of DKK 100,000 will strengthen the foundation’s educational initiatives and give young people in Greenland a unique experience and a strong platform to pursue careers in the maritime sector.
