The world is evolving and so are the ways we act and do things. This applies to all of us, including Royal Arctic Line.

The world is evolving and so are the ways we act and do things. This applies to all of us, including Royal Arctic Line. The shipping between Denmark and Greenland will change, just as it did almost 50 years ago when the supply of Greenland was moved from Copenhagen to Aalborg.

As a consequence of this change, Royal Arctic Line will stop sailing to Aalborg and our long-standing port activities in Aalborg will end.

Since the beginning of January 2022, Royal Arctic Line’s management has negotiated this change with the Works Council in Aalborg and with the trade unions 3F, HK and Metal as advisors. The parties have jointly reached an agreement in accordance with relevant collective agreements and the law on collective redundancies on a larger scale.

The time has now come to act on the outcome of these negotiations. Therefore, Royal Arctic Line has today initiated layoffs of approximately 80 employees working in the warehouse, terminal and workshop with notice periods until the end of June and the end of December 2022. Other employees working in support functions and customer service will not be affected by the change.

Royal Arctic Line expects the last liner out of Aalborg to sail at the end of June. However, the container terminal will continue to operate for the rest of the year, as well as activities related to the return of facilities to the Port of Aalborg.

It has been important for Royal Arctic Line that these next steps in the development of seafaring in Greenland take due account of the long-term dedicated work that our skilled employees have taken part in.
