  • Applicable BAF/CAF surcharge 8% (November)
  • Applicable ETS surcharge 2.87% (Novemer)
What is oil and currency surcharge (BAF/CAF)?

As oil and currency (USD) prices change, you pay the surcharge alongside your freight. BAF/CAF is calculated based on the development in oil prices, exchange rate and balance for later calculation.

The surcharge is based on what Royal Arctic Line has to pay on the market for oil and currency. They are calculated backwards from the current figures. Your invoice will show BAF/CAF as a percentage of the sum of sea freight, handling in the port of origin and handling in the port of destination.

Royal Arctic Line does not profit from these surcharges, which are only used to protect the company against large fluctuations in oil and currency prices.

What is ETS?

ETS is a carbon tax introduced by the EU to motivate shipping companies to emit less CO2.

This means that a CO2 tax must be paid for all goods from the EU and EEA countries to Greenland and vice versa. It affects freight transportation across the Atlantic.
