Due to Covid-19 restrictions now in effect until Monday, July 19, the naming of Maleraq Arctica in Uummannaq will be held in a closed event.
A folk festival was originally planned at the harbor in Uummannaq when our new village ship was to be named, but the authorities’ recommendations regarding gatherings have meant that the plans have changed.
Therefore, a very small crowd will be attending the ceremony itself, and instead we will broadcast live via Facebook from the event at 14:00 on Saturday.
We would like to invite everyone in Greenland and interested parties from outside to follow the naming of Maleraq Arctica on Saturday. It is usually a big and festive event when we name one of our ships, and we hope that as many people as possible will participate online and wish the ship and crew all the best for the future.
The naming of the Maleraq Arctica will be broadcast live via Royal Arctic Line’s Facebook page on Saturday, July 17 at 14:00.
The port area in Uummannaq will be closed during the naming ceremony, but it is possible to follow along from elsewhere in the town.
Royal Arctic Line encourages citizens to follow the Covid-19 recommendations.
