Cargo insurance – an important choice

At Royal Arctic Line, we recommend transportation insurance in case your goods are damaged. When you book a shipment, you can purchase insurance that covers the value of the shipment and freight. You pay for your insurance via your invoice and it will be sent together with your waybill.

What does it cost to take out insurance?

For transport insurance, a premium of 0.8% of the value of the total shipment is charged.
The premium applies to all types of goods – please note that the rate can be changed with 14 days’ notice.
Minimum premium per insurance / booking is DKK 50,-
The insurance is taken out by entering the value of the goods in the “insurance sum” box on the booking confirmation.

When do I take out insurance?

You can take out insurance when you book your shipment.

What do I do if my goods are damaged?

If damage occurs, the carrier has only limited liability. It is therefore important that you report any damage if you see it at pickup. The damage must be written on the delivery receipt. If you subsequently find damage, you must report the damage no later than 3 days after delivery of the goods (cf. the Maritime Act).

Packaging the goods

The transportation of goods on Royal Arctic Line ships takes place all year round and every day. Transportation can be demanding for the goods as the ships sail in all kinds of weather, and especially in the winter months, sailing can be tough when the ships encounter winter storms.

In addition, transportation requires the goods to be handled several times along the way.

Therefore, it is important that the goods can withstand both shipping and handling at terminals.

Therefore, always make sure to pack the goods securely. The packaging must be suitable for the type, weight and robustness of the item being shipped.
