Royal Arctic Line’s new settlement ship, Arpaarti Arctica, was named today at 14:00 at a formal ceremony at the port of Qasigiannguit.
The naming of the ship was opened with choral singing by Amaat.
- Arpaarti Arctica will pave the way for new times and new opportunities. Ships unite different parts of the globe. Thus, Arpaarti Arctica is also a signal of a stronger connection between all regions of our country, and between our country and the rest of the world, for the benefit of all people, said Director Verner Hammeken.
Then it was godmother Johanne Samuelsen’s turn to speak.
- “God bless my country
My beloved country
Take care of it as if it were your own,
Our country
Storms, one after another,
comes in waves, like the waves of the sea
Our Lord of these
Protect the ship on its journey
I name you Arpaarti Arctica”.
The godmother of the new settlement ship threw the wrapped champagne bottle against the side of the ship, breaking it as it should have. Afterwards, there was an open harbor for all residents of Qasigiannguit with coffee, cake and happy music by “Maasikkut Apollolu”.
